Platform | Raspberry pi 5 - 16gb | OS | AlmaLinux-9-RaspberryPi-GNOME-la | OS Version | 9.5 |
Summary | 0000497: Graphical User Interface (GUI) not loaded properly
Description | Hello everyone! I installed the AlmaLinux 9.5 official release with a GUI on a Raspberry Pi 5 with 16GB RAM. However, upon booting, the system does not load the graphical interface. Instead, I see a blank screen with a blinking cursor, with no login prompt or desktop environment options. The same SD card works perfectly when inserted into a Raspberry Pi 5 with 8GB RAM. I have verified that the GUI was included during installation and attempted to manually start the display manager (gdm), but the issue persists. This could be related to hardware compatibility, driver issues, or RAM-related kernel limitations. Thank you.
Steps To Reproduce | 1.Open Raspberry Pi Imager. 2.Format the SD card to FAT32. 3.Choose Storage. 4.After formatting is completed successfully. 5.Open Raspberry Pi Imager again. 6.Select Raspberry Pi 5. 7.Select "Use Custom Image." 8.Download the image from the official website under Raspberry Pi AArch64 (e.g., AlmaLinux 9 GNOME). https://repo.almalinux.org/rpi/9/images/AlmaLinux-9-RaspberryPi-GNOME-latest.aarch64.raw.xz 9.Select Storage. 10.After completing the burning process on the SD card, insert the SD card into the device. 11.The device boots up, but a blank light blue screen appears.
Additional Information | There is a walk around, I download the server version , https://repo.almalinux.org/rpi/9/images/AlmaLinux-9-RaspberryPi-mbr-9.5-20241202.aarch64.raw.xz and then go through the guide (https://wiki.almalinux.org/documentation/raspberry-pi.html#installation-steps), after install the server version I started configure the GUI manual. and after an hour the system was boot up properly with 16gb. check that using command free -m.

Just for the reference, other people encountered the same issue. https://x.com/_0066060066_/status/1880852032942473698 |

This also appears to currently effect the Raspberry Pi 500 (same GUI display issue, though VT2 and such are usable). |
