| Platform | x86_64 | OS | AlmaLinux | OS Version | 8.5 |
| Summary | 0000205: System hangs while trying to power off if certain USB video cameras are disconnected while in use. | ||||
| Description | When the USB camera is disconnected while in use, it leaves the system in such a state that the system will hang on shutdown. | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | Load a system with AlmaLinux 8.5 (I'm using a Lenovo Yoga laptop, and I've also done it on a Cybernet NB22), selecting Server GUI at install time. Connect an e-con See3CAM_11CUG camera to the laptop. Run Cheese and use preferences to select the e-con camera. Once an image is displayed, unplug the camera. Cheese will lock up. Shut the system down normally. The system will hang at shutdown after systemd reaches 'Starting Power-Off'. The only way to regain control at that point is to force power-down the system. If you wait long enough, a couple of kernel task hung messages may appear. | ||||
| Additional Information | The failure happens about 90% of attempts. I have attempted to reproduce this with various CentOS kernel rpms: kernel 4.18.0-147.el8, kernel 4.18.0-193.28.1.el8_2, kernel 4.18.0-240.22.1.el8_3, kernel-4.18.0-305.25.1.el8_4 did NOT exhibit the problem, while kernel-4.18.0-348.2.1.el8_5 and later all exhibit the problem. I also tried to reproduce with all the longterm kernels from kernel.org (I grabbed the tarballs and built and ran them). None of those kernels exhibited the problem. | ||||

Hello. Please try to reproduce with latest CentOS 8.5 kernel available before EOL: kernel-4.18.0-348.7.1.el8_5 It's available here: https://vault.centos.org/8.5.2111/BaseOS/x86_64/os/Packages/ |

I tried with kernel-4.18.0-348.2.1.el8_5, kernel-4.18.0-348.7.1.el8_5, kernel-4.18.0-348.20.1.el8_5 and all had the problem. |

|
Then it looks like something introduced in RHEL 8.5. Could you please also try on CentOS Stream 8 latest kernel? It will help to understand if it already fixed in future RHEL kernels or bug should be created. |

Yes, that fixes it. kernel-4.18.0-373.el8.x86_64 works just fine. I checked all the c8 kernels, AND a bunch of hand-built kernels from kernel.org, but it never occurred to me to go grab the latest from c8-stream. Thank you. |
